Inside Passage Electric Cooperative, or IPEC, is a non-profit, consumer owned electric utility serving over 1,300 members in the rural Southeast Alaska communities of Hoonah, Kake, Chilkat Valley, Angoon, and Klukwan.

IPEC has meter surge protectors available for purchase.  These surge protectors protect your home at the meter from power surges. The cost of these surge protectors is $150.  There are no additional installation fees to the customer if you purchase the surge protector from IPEC.  If you are interested in purchasing a meter surge protector, please call Rosa at 1-800-478-3198 ext. 3040. Payment is due at the time of purchase and the entire amount of $150 must be paid at the time of purchase. IPEC will not add the cost of these surge protectors to your billing statement.  Once the purchase is complete, IPEC will schedule a time for installation.

JOB OPENINGS:

IPEC has an immediate opening for a staff accountant in our Auke Bay headquarters. This position reports to the Controller and will help with reconciling various accounts, assist with general ledger entries, work orders, inventory and fixed asset accounting, assist with PCE filings and monthly sales tax filings. A working knowledge of RUS accounting procedures is desirable but not necessary. This position will also assist with financial audits, month-end and year-end closings. This position will also back up billing when that person is out of the office. This will consist of taking payments and helping customers. Job Title: Operations Manager

Reports to: CEO/General Manager

Overall Responsibility: Works under the general supervision of the CEO/General Manager. Responsible for supervising and coordinating the operations of remote electric generation, substations, transmission and distribution facilities for IPEC’s four micro-grids in rural communities in Southeast Alaska.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides direction to staff; ensures resolution of problems; sets priorities, establishes workloads and provides support in decision making. Plans, schedules, and administers facility and system maintenance and operations, and capital construction projects.
  2. Recommends policies and procedures; ensures effective implementation and adherence.

  1. Develops and manages operation, maintenance, and construction of capital projects including renewable energy.

  1. Develops comprehensive planning and project management.
  2. Provides expertise for solving electrical, maintenance and system problems in the production and generation of electric power.
  3. Must be able to travel between headquarters in Auke Bay to Hoonah, Kake, Angoon, and the Chilkat Valley in the Haines Borough on both scheduled and emergency basis.

EDUCTION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Engineering degree or background is preferred. Minimum of four (4) years of experience in electric utility operations and a minimum of four (4) years of experience in electric utility power production, maintenance, and/or substation operation and maintenance.

Working experience with overhead and underground transmission and distribution construction and maintenance required.

Experience planning, scheduling, inspecting, and working with electrical crews required.

Project management principles and construction techniques which include planning, organizing, scheduling, ordering materials, work order assignment, and monitoring work activities.

Business/public practices and procedures.

Personal computer literate, engineering applications, and data management software.

Organizing, analyzing, interpreting and evaluation problems and provide practical, cost effective solutions.

Managing multiple projects and the ability to communicate effectively with customer, co-workers, contractors, and the general public, both orally and in writing.

Mechanical/electronic system troubleshooting including diesel engines, gasoline engines, power train systems and mechanical auxiliary components.

Electrical systems including high voltage transmission / distribution and commercial/residential feeder and branch circuits.

This person must be self-motivated and able to work independently and with a group to move the organization forward and towards the goals of the organization.
